Al and Sara Lou Chenery

For Al and Sara Lou Chenery, you might say that living at Lakewood Manor is a family matter. Since 1997, several members of their family, including Al’s father and aunt have made Lakewood their home. Today, Sara Lou’s mother, aunt and sister live here.

“We saw the good care that our own family members received at Lakewood over the years and thought it would make a perfect place for us to retire, as well. It’s really taken a load off of our kids’ minds knowing that we are here, now.” says Al.

Al and Sarah Lou have taken advantage of all of the activities available at Lakewood since they moved into their new cottage in 2006. In one month alone, the couple took in five plays throughout Virginia and North Carolina — all organized through Lakewood. At Christmas, they had 12 people over for breakfast, and they continue to get together with couples from the old neighborhood.

Despite all of their activities, they say there is always plenty of time for quiet and simple R&R at home in their cottage.
